Default Opinions appreciated.

This is another "I'm new to trail biking" thread.

I've done a bit of reading and drove around town looking at various options.

The two bikes I've narrowed it down to are the Gary Fisher Cake 3 Deluxe and the Santa Cruz Superlight with D kit.

I've gotten price quotes for both locally.

The Cake 3 is going for $1600 and I think the guy would drop it a bit more if it cynched the deal.

The Santa Cruz was offered for $1400 and I don't think I'd be able to get it any lower then that.

I realize the listed for both these bikes is higher, but from veteran bike buyers are these the deals they would at first appear?

Also, if you have any personal experience with the bikes I'd be interested to hear your pro's, con's, and which you just like more.
