Default Mexico's Congress Legalizes Drugs

The US just solved it's border problems ....... If the following measure passes in Mexico what will happen is this ........ The US will get 15 million illegal aliens that come here to work, and about 15 million American stoners will go to Mexico to accomplish nothing. The US needs to offer a "One of mine for one of yours " bill.......

Mexico's Congress Legalizes Drugs for Personal Use
Friday, April 28, 2006

MEXICO CITY — Mexico's Congress approved a bill Friday that would legalize drug possession for personal use — decriminalizing the carrying of small quantities of marijuana and cocaine and even heroin. The only step remaining is the signature of the president, whose office indicates he will sign it, despite the implications for the war on drugs.

The bill, passed by Mexico's Senate on a 53-26 vote with one abstention, has already been approved in the lower house of Congress. U.S. officials had no immediate reaction on what this means for Mexico's fight against drug trafficking — or the vast numbers of vacationing students who visit Mexico.

"The presidency congratulates the Congress for approving the reforms," presidential spokesman Ruben Aguilar. "This law gives police and prosecutors better legal tools to combat drug crimes that do so much damage to our youth and children."

The bill legalizes possession of 25 milligrams of heroin, 5 grams of marijuana (about one-fifth of an ounce, or about five joints), or 0.5 grams of cocaine — about half the standard sale quantity, though half-size packages are becoming more common. It also lays out the legal limits for possession of a wide array of other drugs.

"No charges will be brought against ... addicts or consumers who are found in possession of any narcotic for personal use," the bill reads.

America's gain is Mexico's loss...
This has worked just fine in Holland for 30 years and it's a sensible move by Mexico.

The only thing I would be concerned with is the allowance of drugs that are too serious to be used at a young age...... Cocaine, LSD, and meth. The weed thing is sensible...... I just don't know how the other drugs will affect the society. How are the more serious drugs handled in Holland?

They are pretty tolerant of users, definitely not so with dealers.
I was in Holland a few years ago and saw a couple of local cops stop and search. They found a small packet which they gave back to him and he went on his way.I asked them what had happened (they were standing around looking bored). The cops said that they had only searched him to see if he had a traffickable quantity, which he didn't.When I asked why they gave him back the drugs, they told me that if they didn't,he would just commit a crime to get the money for more.So they had just prevented a crime.
Makes perfect sense to me.
The next day,we saw a dealer get arrested in the street.Four very large young cops jumped out of a car, threw the dealer against the wall, searched him, cuffed him and had him in the car in less than five minutes.Very efficient.
The use of harder drugs seems to be tolerated and treated as a medical problem only for users, although I was told that an area down near the docks had been set aside for minor transactions to take place and the cops turned a bit of a blind eye to it (while still observing). The cops reasoning seemed to be that the sales would happen anyway and they were getting information on who was involved and tracking them back to the main suppliers.Which makes sense to me too.
The coffee shops mostly catered to tourists.Weed has lost its novelty for the locals I think.Mostly they enjoy beer (and very nice it is too!)

If they are hard on dealers, how does the individual go about getting supplied?
Are you allowed to grow a plant of your own ????

To change the subject a little..... If this passes in Mexico I can see the border towns [US/Mexico] becoming real popular with tourists. Almost resort like... Mini LasVegas's. Meico will have to solve the crime problem because the border towns have a tendency to be crime ridden and dangerous.
