Smile What food do you take on an all-day ride?

I tend to go out for rides that take several hours, and like to make a 'lunch' stop about 2/3 of the way around the route. So, what sort of things do you suggest I incorporate into my lunch? (This is purely recreational by the way and not a strict training diet).

For 2-3 hour rides I tend to carry a couple of bananas and a protein bar.
For a longer ride 6-8 hours I will carry the same as above plus a couple of tuna sandwiches (homemade bread of course) and maybe a couple of extra pieces of fruit.

There are a lot of what seem old chesnuts out there. Malt loaf i find fabulous, flapjack be careful about the fat content. Bananas are the fruit of cyclists. I have found that treats, maynards fruit gums for me, are a godsend in your bag. You've got to want to eat it, is the thing. Simple carbs, not too much fat and unprocessed if possible. So on the whole if you can carry it without beating it up too much, you'd feed it to your children and you want to eat it take it.

Yep...Powerbars and bananas for mid-range rides. My favorite century food are Smucker's Uncrustables PB&J sandwiches. They are sealed and circular, and come individually wrapped. You can put a couple frozen in your jersey pocket and they are really easy to eat on the bike.

Raisins, the California ones in the red match-box size boxes. You chew them for ages. I like to keep one box tucked up each sleeve. You can hold a box as you cycle and take a few.

If you can get it England try Enervit, www.enervitusa.com. They have meal plans for 1 hour rides all the way up to 5-6 hour rides. They even have triathlon (Oympic Distance) plans. I have used it since 2006 and it really works.
