Here in Finland we have really bad track in Tampere. It´s made 30 years ago with wooden pieces. And nobody has repair it since now they are trying little bit because we should race national championships there. There are six holes where you can put your wheel and all the nails are 1cm up.

The logic for Carnegie is a bit flawed. Carnegie don't have a club house, the cricket club do. And while the track is fast, it's not really a velodrome. Amazing to hear of a track getting a worse review than the Hawthorn triathelete-drome. I work just near Footsrcay, might have to check it out for a laugh. Of course, you'd have to wonder why someone in Switzerland bothered to put together a summary of Melbourne tracks. |

There is a really bad track here in Ontario in Delhi. It's an asphalt 250 built some 30-40 years ago. There are only two layers of asphalt on top of a sandy dirt foundation that thank god hasn't moved. The bankings get as steep as 28 degrees but that's about it. thei're sanking cracks all over, and the asphalt is starting to peel in places. I can stick my fingers under the track in turn 2. IN turn 4, their is a nice bump that runs across the sprinters lane and will buck you back wheel about 6 inches up the track during a flying 200. The maximum speed on the track before you clip a pedal in the bank is 56 km/h. Not a fast track, but one that will certainly improve your bike handling. taras

While we have a great track that is pretty smooth in Baton Rouge Louisiana, the PROGRAM is nearly non existant. No one seemS to want to work with the parks commision to keep a progam consistent.

In South Florida there is only 1 track and it has just been put in a year or 2 ago. Pretty nice out doors track and well maintained. The World Cup is being hosted there this year.

those rating were a bit odd!! why did preston get rated no better than Hawthorn? it has a club house, fences, and lines. blackburn is a pretty average track - it has tight corners, holes and bumps. thats were i started my racing. carnegie and chelsea are only three star at best, there is more to a velodrome than a fast surface. they have no facilities and are odd shapes for velodromes. northcote was still the best outdoor track in melbourne and had good facilities so i dont know why it had such a bad score. there was a couple of bits to repair, but that is immaterial now. the board track should be good. Brunswick is a super weird track, one straight is uphill and the other of course is downhill. and one corner tightens suddenly! the surface is ok but has bumps and holes in the concrete. Coburg is ok, but really weird to ride for the first few times. it has a really steep banking and short corners. you have to work hard to stay on the black line and not run up the track! the two worst are definitely Hawthorn and Footscray. Hawthorn has no lines or fences and one end has a big rise in it (you almost have to get out the triple chainring climbing rig it goes up so much). But Footscray i think deserves the award, even though its the only track i havent raced on, in the pics in the link it looks in a state of disrepair! |

In New Zealand there is a small town called Ashburton, it has a 400meter ashphelt track that has small streights in the middle of each bend... it has to be riden to be believed, leaning left into each banking is followed by a sharp hook right to avoid the grass as it streightens then sharp left to finish the banking, almost a criterium on a track bike

I thought the old Camperdown track in Sydney was bad till i saw the pics of the track in Finland.Camperdown was awesome to train on though as it wasnt locked up.All you had to do was put up with giant cracks in the cement, weeds out of control and people walking their dogs. But a normal veledrome felt fast after youd trained on the old crappy one.
