Default shock upgrade for 99 fsr xc

i've got a 1999 specialized FSR XC comp, and i'm looking to upgrade the rear shock. don't want to get a new bike, have a lot invested in the bike. interested in something that would help reduce pedal induced bobbing. SPV, propedal or some thing similar. any suggestions.
