hi
Would be interested to hear your opinion on Mountain Bike pedals. Im trying to choose between egg beaters and Speedplay Frogs. I have had bad knees for the last two years. Also, Im after a pair of decent sunglasses. I currently use a pair of cheapish sunglasses which are fine in bright sunlight ( so thats ok for about 2 weeks a year!) but too dark when i'm cycling through forest or when it's overcast. Im leaning toward buying a pair of Rudy sunglasses. There's a bewildering range of lenses available..can anyone recommend which is best for cycling in a variety of light conditions. I was thinking of the Racing Red or TekRed lenses. cheers,S |

On the mtb, i have used ShimaNO, Time, and Crank bros candys. The Times are my fave so far, with the Crank Bros a very close second.
As for the lenses, for subdued light, yellow is the best. I dont like red too much due to color distortions. The perfect lens set would be clear, yellow, and gray.

I too have bad knees and ended up with Speedplays for both road (X2) and mountain (Frogs). It took a little getting used to, but I found the Frogs to be a great pedal for someone with not-so-great knees. They have no spring centering which means they'll never put torque on your knees, and they have enough float that, if the cleat isn't adjusted just perfect, your knees won't suffer the consequences. The eggbeaters are not as good in this regard. If I had to pick on one significant flaw with the Frogs, it would be that, when you're clipped in, you're clipped in. There is no overlap between a ski binding and this pedal system. Hence, if you go down and your feet don't turn in such a way that their released, then they won't release. I seldom do the kind of riding that causes me to crash, so it hasn't been the biggest issue with me. |
