Scott Fonseca won the event. There were three crashes - one at the start on the Esplanade, which resulted in a rider breaking two ribs and a scapula. The next crash happened on the gravel section when one rider in front decided to slam on his brakes at 25mph....resulting in the rider behind him slamming right into his rear wheel. Both riders were taken back to Chico by a support vehicle. The final crash happened near the end - Dan Martin was hit by a car making a bonehead move.....the driver, according to police reports, was at fault. Dan was in the lead group at the time heading towards the finish. He was taken to the hospital with a broken ankle.
