Perhaps this topic has been addressed already. If so, I apologize as I couldn't find it. I'm in the market for a new bike and am REALLY impressed with the Soloist. Unfortunately, it's ($2200 "Team" version) a bit on the pricey side for me. I'm looking for bikes that one might consider the Soloist's closest competition in the $1200-$1500 market.
Thanks Derek |

I understand that money is always a factor when buying a bike but hopefully you're going to keep that bike for 3-5 years, right? Maybe 6-10 if you're not driven to have the latest/greatest. I don't know your financial situation but I would get the bike that you're going to be happy with. If you save $500 and want to upgrade your bike a year later, what was the point?
If you're really limited by a dollar figure, then just test ride a bunch of bikes in the $$ range you want to spend and see what you like. But you're just not going to find a bike that compares to the Soloist Team for $1,200 and (IMHO) probably not $1,500. The Soloist is a special design road bike (geometry) with the aero design of a Tri or TT bike. Cervelo's bikes are priced VERY reasonably in comparison to other bike manufacturers for the quality you get (again my opinion). |

If you want an aero bike that's affordable get the Giant TCR Aero (1 or 2). They're cheap $1100 to $1600 and even cheaper used on ebay. Just remove the aero bars and you have a great road bike!
I have the 2003 Cervelo Soloist Team, a 2002 Giant TCR Aero 2, an 2005 Kestrel Talon, a 2004.5 Giant OCR 1, and a 2006 Raleigh Prestige. |

Hi, For some reason I can't find the Giant TT frames or bikes on their website. Been looking at TT frames, attempting to find the cheapest while still being reasonably good. I came up with Javelin and Kestrel. HED actually has a frame for 1600 USD, which I don't think is bad considering their knowledge of all things aero. The Kestrel in particular looks quite good. On the opposite end of the spectrum is the BMC TT machine for about 15,000 USD. Good lord. -Bikeguy Last edited by bikeguy : 06-02.-2006 at 07:55 AM. |

Since I've been thinking of building a TT bike, I think the Javelin Arcole and
the Argon 18 Mercury are excellent choices for such vs a Cervelo frame. These are more like the Cervelo P2 in aeroness and are a bit cheaper, at least in europe. Our very own Andrew Coggan has compared the Javelin Arcole to a Cervelo P2. -Bikeguy |
