At the world champion chips in the Netherlands Erwin ververcken won the title (for the second time after 2001) at the men's race and the just 18 year old Marianne Vos won the women's race. Especially the men's race was action-filled, a thriller which everybody believed would be won by defending champion Sven Nys, but he fell in the last round.
