Default French travel advice?

In order to ride l'etape du Tour, my major sponsor (spelled w-i-f-e) requires a little beach time. Anybody have any advice on staying on the cote d'azur? I'm sure July is pretty busy, but we're not really big party folk, so something a little smaller and quaint would be great. Any advice would be welcome and appreciated though. We will have a rental car, and will probably see at least a little of Provence as well, maybe some of the alps too. We'll have about a week to play and will fly out of Nice.

We were there in June/ July last year and really enjoyed Menton. We were camped there in early July and had a great time. Lots to see nd do around the area. If you can make it to Vence, Manosque, Gourdon and a few other towns around the Haute provence region you will find them not as crowded as on the coast. Be prepared for hot weather as we were riding in temps up to 38 celcius.

Cheers

Geoff

Go for Menton. More laid back than Nice and Cannes and you might even find some space on the beach to yourself. The village of Sospel is up on the hill about 16km away and is worth a look as well.

Nice and Cannes may be famous, but big cities have big problems. Menton way better.

Take a look at : http://www.beyond.fr/ for your trip in Provence, and stay 2 nights in Nice before leaving (rest, beach and city together).
