Default New and need some helping pricing a bike...

Hey guys. New to the forum.

I'm thinking about buying my friends bike and I really have no knowledge of what I'm getting myself into. Thought I'd check here to see what you gurus have to say. Here's the bike:

frame is a 19.5 and it is a ControlTech Team Issue
It has a Marzocchi Bomber fork
Shimano XTR/XT components
Continental tires
One of the brake levers is an Avid 2.0 and one is a Shimano XTR.
GripShift shifters
leather Selle Italia saddle on it.
It also has a red Chris King headset

Basically, I no nothing. Is this a good setup? What looks good, what looks bad, and how much should I look to pay for it. Bike is in great condition.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

whats the overall condition of the bike and how old is it? and where do yo ulive? US, Can, Aus, UK, Euro?

New i would say about £1500.00 In good used condition about £700.00- £1000.00 ($1200-$1700 USD) depending on what Bombers it has and general condition...

The bike is in great shape since it's been sitting in the garage and not used for a while. The bike is old though--friend had when we were seniors in high school and we just graduated from college this past spring. The bike has been sitting there for the past 4 years. I would says the bike is 5 or six year old. Will that make a huge difference in price? Reponses on bikeforum.com stated 150-200 USD and no more than 300 USD because of the "outdated parts." One guy even said that it would only be useful to scrap parts. Have you heard of controltech frames before?

i didnt realise it was that old,

yes control tech used to be a big player in mtb hardware, frames, bars, stems..that sort of thing. come to think about it, i havent heard of them in a while

i wouldnt say it was fit for scrap though, and i dont have a clue what out dated parts are...it will still be compatible with parts made today

the bike frame itself may have a small headset and 'old skool' frame design. perhaps that was what they were referring to.

its worth more than they guys are saying but it may be difficult to find a buyer for an older bike....people want the latest stuff but if i were you i would keep it and thrash about on it.

certainly in its day it was a proper racing machine and should still have a lot to give...

cheers
