Now that 105 has been upgraded to 10 speed, there won't be much of a serious performance gain by going up to Ultegra. Test ride both and go with the frame that feels best to you.

Giant road bikes are nice - I have 2 of them. But lately I've been looking at a Raleigh Prestige (around $1900). The Raleigh Team is nice too.
http://www.raleighusa.com/items.asp?deptid=5&itemid=295 Tell me what you think of Raleigh. |

I just ordered a Raleigh Prestige 06 model with the 05 Ritchey Protocol 1350 gram wheels and a Stronglight Pulsion crank, no BB, -- for $1940 shipped. Awesome deal and better specs than many other $2000 + US bikes.
email flashgb00@sbcglobal.net -- Freewheeler bike shop in Grand Rapids, MI, USA. I don't know if they ship to Australia, but they give good deals on Raleigh bikes. Tell them Jesse Evangelista mentioned this to you! Why are bikes and stuff so expensive in Australia? Like what are the typical salaries of Australians based on the job they do? |

Shipping distances for one thing, probably has import taxes as well to add. And then there is the fun thing of the exchange rate (~US$0.72 to the AU$1.00). Also salaries vary a bit, and are probably a lot worse $ for $ in Australia vs say Bay Area or New York. However having said that, other cost of living is not as great as either of those areas. I am a 'well' paid IT geek, and I earn about AU$90k/US$64k a year. Australia is also one of the highest taxed countries in the world. So out of that $90k I see about AU$60k/US$44k. So yes, most of us are used to getting shafted for just about anything imported into Australia. |
