Would anyone venture a guess on how a masters power profile would look in comparison with ACs initial chart with the categories. Since masters are sub categorized, maybe a 40-50 group would be interesting.

Compared to the musculoskeletal system, the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems seem to be affected earlier/to a greater degree by the aging process. Thus, the power profile of a master's rider will tend to be somewhat more "horizontal", as 5 min power (surrogate for VO2max) falls relative to 5 s and 1 min power and functional threshold power rises relative to 5 min power. However, the magnitude of these relative changes will vary with the individual, their training history, etc., and are not really great enough to impair the utility of the tables when used for their intended purpose. |
