I just started Biking. I also jog/run but never noticed a problem with my right knee. However, whenever I bike, I start sensing some weakness and then when I ride standing upright, and it's the righ leg's turn, I feel a sharp pain on the sides and top of the knee cap. Once I sit back, the pain is noticable but not enough to stop biking so I continue on.
Can this be due to the seat height? I didn't think so since the pain is when I ride while not sitting down on the seat. I can't sense the pain when I press around the knee. To isolate it I tried to lunge on my right left. I don't sense it when I do a forward lunge and recover, however, when I do a rear lunge I can sense it pretty bad as I lower myself on the right left and start retreating from the lunge. Hope this helps in identifying the problem. Appreciate the help from this board. Thanks. Eman |

It could have something to do with the right knee position in relation with the pedal. Try adjusting either your seat height or horizontal position (forward or rearwards).

Go to a quality bike shop, one that has racers working there, even if you are not a racer or have a racing bike. Have them set you up on your bike to make sure your saddle is correctly positioned. Whoever does it, make sure they are experienced in position setup. Too often today, bike shops, even big, well known shops, are staffed with people who very often don't even own a bike or do any riding!!! Avoid these shops like the plague!!! Also, consider stopping running. Cycling is much better for your knees than running. How many runners do you see with their knees wrapped??? Good luck!!!
