Here's what's coming in the next few weeks.

3rd March 2002:
Ride from Flinders Street Station to Mordialloc, with possible extension
to Patterson Lakes and Jell's Park.  This is a combined ride with the
Essendon bushwalking club and our group.  Leader is Rodney Williams
(triko1@hotmail.com, 03 9374 2029)

Meet at Flinders St. Station at 9 AM. sharp, (I think we should meet not
quite under the clocks - between the clocks and the river)

We'll be cycling to St Kilda and along the beach road cycle path via
Elwood, Brighton, Sandringham, Black Rock, Mentone, to Mordialloc. The
cycle path is flat, with the exceptions of a few dips where the path
runs adjacent to the beach and then back up onto the road again. The
Beach Rd. is notorious for racing cyclists and club members who use this
section particularly on the weekends. The views of Port Phillip Bay are
quite scenic and it is a very pleasant ride. For those who are inclined,
take you bathers along for a dip. This ride is for pleasure not pain !!

There are many exit points to catch trains back to the city for those
who have limited time. Depending on energy levels we could return back
to Melbourne for a coffee at Southbank or continue on to Patterson
Lakes. The ride is around 45 kms.  Come along, look forward to your
company and a pleasant ride.

Bicycle Victoria's Great Melbourne Bike Ride - see http://www.bv.com.au/
- A good chance to show HPV's to all the other cyclists out there.  Well
it costs $35 which is over twice our annual membership for one 45km
ride.  But on the same weekend you can come to Altona for free...see
below.

Sunday  Morning  :  17th  March,  2002

This is the annual Altona 'Bayside Festival'.  Please see

OzHPV Inc have officially entered in the street parade 'Wings and Wheels
through the ages'.  The festival also has a bike ride around Cherry Lake
starting at 9:30.  I'll be riding down there from home, leaving
Yarraville Station at 8:30 am.  Come along and help promote OzHPV!

Bike Ride at  9:30am  :  Around Cherry Lake, starting at Fresno St.,
Altona
                      All  participants  must  wear  helmets  and
have  roadworthy  bikes.

The Toyota Grand Parade at  11am  :  Along Pier St. to Grant Reserve,
Altona - Starts with an RAAF Museum fly-over and led by Ronald McDonald.

I'll put more information on the website when I chase it up...  I'll
print out some OzHPV flyers to hand around.

The Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail

This is probably the best rail trail in Victoria, a sealed, graded
pathway through some of the prettiest scenery anywhere.  I propose a
weekend of premium HPV enjoyment based in Mytleford.

I have booked three en-suite cabins at Arderns Caravan Park Myrtleford
(Willow Grove actually) for Friday night and Saturday night 5th and 6th
of April 2002.  Each cabin can sleep 6.  The price for a cabin is $50.00
per night for 4 people, $55 for 5, $60 for 6.  They have more cabins if
we need them, but this is school holidays so we need to get in quick.
Of course they have campsites as well.

My plan is that we all drive up there on Friday night, towing trailers
full of HPV's.  I'll try to hire a large trailer with fences - or maybe
we can borrow some trailers.  So we go to bed and wake up Saturday
morning ready to ride.  On Saturday, I'd like to ride to Beechworth and
back.  Its a BIG uphill to get there and a hoot coming down again.
Round trip distance is 86 km, but of course people can turn back at any
point along the way.  (There's also the possibility of trailering some
bikes up to Beechworth and rolling down the hill.)

On Saturday night we can go to the pub or have a barbecue - whatever.
Then on Sunday I'd propose we ride to Bright and back, a distance of
62km.  The track is like pebblemix set in bitumen.  Its quite smooth and
safe and there are water stops and toilets at some points along the
way.  They have an excellent website with good advice about the track
and towns around.

I'm open to all suggestions about the transport arrangements, ride
distances and plans for Saturday night.  

I need to find out is WHO's COMING?  I need to confirm the numbers so we
can confirm or alter the booking, arrange transport etc.  Please email
me now and confirm if you'e coming - also if you can provide transport
or if you need transport.

OzHPV ride Sunday 5th May 2002

Clifton Hill To Reservoir via Sunday Market.
About 25k return trip.

Meet Clifton Hill station, (John St side) 9 AM sharp (Melway Map 2C Ref 2k)

We travel Along Merri Creek for a short way, then along the St Georges road bike path and some wide, quiet streets to Edwardes Park Lake.  Short break then on along Newlands Rd to the Sunday Trash
& treasure market held in the Coburg Twin Drive - In Theatre.  There's the occasional bargain bike to be had at the market.  (Think about 150 Garage Sales rolled into one).  A quick roll down to Coburg
lake for morning tea (milk bars & shops should be open on the way there) before heading back along Merri Creek to the station.  Highlights of the return journey include the Brunswick Velodrome and Ceres,
where there's an excellent bike co-op.

Entry to the Sunday market costs a dollar or so.  Organiser is Steve Nurse  9481 8290

Cyclists joining our rides do so voluntarily and as volunteers accept sole responsibility for any injury or damage however incurred - the ride contacts cannot be held liable for any injury or damage resulting
from any ride activity. Riders under 16 should be accompanied by a cycling adult. An SAA approved helmet is  required by law, also essential are a HPV / bike / trike in good working order, water bottle,
snacks, sunscreen, phone money, pump, spare tube or tubes and appropriate tool kit.

Sunday 4th August 2002

Two creeks ride.

Adrian Gotts will take us up the Merri Creek and back down the Moonee Ponds creek.

Meet at CERES Environmental Park 8 Lee Street Brunswick at the bike shed at 9:30am for a 10am start.  (Melway Map 30 B7)
We go north up the Merri Creek trail until we hit the Western Ring Road way up in Thomastown, then turn left (west).  There's a bike track along the Western Ring Road which takes us across to the
Moonee Ponds Creek in Tullamarine.  We turn left again and follow this creek south down to Royal Park where we pick up the Capitol City trail.  That gets us back east to the Merri creek at Rushall station.
A short leg north and we're back to Ceres.

Its about 50km so it'll probably take us 3-4 hours.  Bring all the usual stuff - sunblock, spares, tools, wet weather gear etc.  If its looking wet please check with Adrian to see if its still happening on 9480 4425.

OzHPV Race Day, Sunday September 8, 2002, 11am – 4:30 pm, Broadford Vic
(Registration from 10:30 am)

At Reg Hunt Motorcycle Park, Broadford., Melways 510 M8. Or follow the signs on the Hume Highway near Broadford. Or 20 minute cycle from  Broadford station.  Just follow the road towards
Flowerdale and Strath Creek 2km out of town.

$15.00 per bike to participate, spectators free. Fees cover hiring the course and 1st aid expenses.

This race meeting will be a great chance for you to see and ride all manner of human powered vehicles and will be a precurser to the 2002 OzHpv Challenge in Canberra in November and the 2003 OzHpv
Challenge to be held at Reg Hunt Park in March.

Races to Include * Last man out, * 1 lap time trial, * 1 hour road race, * Off –Road, * Slalom.

BYO lunch (barbecue facilities are provided.)
