Read on. ---------------- Hi guys and girls. Quick one today - I know that ozone and UV light are the two primary causes of dry rot and rubber degredation. Just wondering if anybody had any tips for storing unused tyres? Obviously storage in cool areas, away from light and heat (UV and temperature changes), is a smart idea. I've also read that you shouldn't store tyres near electric motors, since they generate ozone. This obviously applies to running motors, but does it still apply to motors that are not running? Any other ideas for preventing rot? Cheers for your help. nerdag

Electric motors will only generate ozone when they are running and only if they have brushes or any type of switching contacts in them so your smaller ones like the ones found in portable household fans shouldn't be a problem - mostly it's the bigger ones like those found in large household appliances, power tools, heating/air-conditioning equipment and elevator machine rooms that you have to worry about - hope this helps - this advice comes from an electrician....
