Default crank lengths

Hi, I have recently returned to road cycling, after an absense of over 20 years, and I was wondering if someone far more knowledgeable than I could explain the relative pro's and con's of the different crank arm lengths. I am particularly interested in the Campag line as I have built a bike from assorted componant groups and I am now looking to upgrade my chainset to the 9 speed chorus.
I look forward to your reply.

Thanks Scotty-dog,
Having just looked at the links you sent I now feel a little more informed. There is a lot of info in these links and I think I'll go and have another read. Thanks once again.

There's a much shorter article here, which essentially says that crank length should be 1/5th (20%) of your inside leg measurement.

As you mention chorus chanset, it's worth also noting that there are compatibility issues when mixing cranksets and chainsets, BBs etc, hence best to stick with campag.
