Hi,
I would like some advice on what I should be looking for when buying a couple of hybrids for my wife and I (both aged 26). Wife would use it to commute to/from work daily and for weekend adventures with me. I may use it occassionally for commuting, but mainly for recreational rides - along the roads, through parks, etc. - for an hour or so at a time. The models we have been looking at are:
![]() We're interested in the Cypress because of the price but have heard the Farrago has better parts thus would be mort comfortable to ride. We were recently told by a shop that a Trek or Gary Fisher would be a better bike as parts are much better, but I have heard others on this forum say that bikes like Trek cost more because of the brand and not so much the product. However, the shop pointed out that Trek and GF have lifetime warranties on the frame and long warranty on parts than Giant. Would this really be worth the cost difference? Any advice you could share based on our intended use and approx budget (no more than $1500 for both) would be appreciated. Thanks K. |

I suggest looking at the 2006 range of Giant CRX Flat Bar Road Bikes, particularly the Giant CRX3, it is very good value with its standard of road compnents.

I'm in a similar position, looking to buy either the Cypress, Farrago (if I can get a good deal) or the CRX4 or CRX3 flat bar models.
Mainly using the bike for commuting on bike paths in Canberra. Currently using a 10 yo MTB with slicks (no suspension), so the suspension models are appealing but my LBS dude tried to talk me into the flat bar models. He said they were much lighter and faster (than the hybrids) and that the loss of front suspension is not a big problem. I'm still not sure but plan to test them out soon. Anybody recently bought one of these models want to comment on their decision? Kurieuo, what did you end up going with? |

Here is one that you might like to look at. It is the Kona Dew for $399. I think it would be a good rig for the type of riding that you are talking about!
Good luck on your choice, and let us know what you ended up getting! www.konaworld.com/2k6/preview/dew_2k6.htm |
