Question GT Avalanche 0.5 vs Avanti Lightning

Heres the choice. GT Avalanche 0.5 '05 model versus Avanti Lightning '05 model. Both about the same prices - $900 for the Avanti, $999 for the GT (prices in Australian dollars, sorry you yanks). Both end of season, so good discounts. The GT is better cause it comes with eggbeater clip pedals included, has hydraulic discs, but im not sure how reliable the SRAM rear derailleurs are. The Avanti is better cause it has oil shocks, and LX rear derailleur, but only comes with 'normal' pedals and mechanical disks. The Avanti is also a bit cheaper too. If you guys could help me out.. or suggest another bike under the AU$1000 price range.. that would be great.

Default Re: GT Avalanche 0.5 vs Avanti Lightning

my mate has bought a GT avalanche0.5 for $1100... you got a good price there... specs are great with the GT and the forks are hydraulic... air sprung i believe....

for the same $$ i'd take the GT

i know there are a few people who bag GTs since their sell out to pacific (?) but they are essentially the same bike but cheaper

the downside is that the GT seems to be a bit heavier...

i wouldn't worry about the SRAM... there are as many people who bag it as those who rave about it... my friend has a XTC2 and it has a X9... it shift way better than my LX

also, hydro discs are worth it if you are serious about your trail riding....
