Confused new guy here. Looking to get into mountain biking for exercise only. Too old and fat to race or jump from cliffs.
Nevertheless, I want to understand better what some of the terms mean that I see. Can someone provide me some down and dirty definitions that tell me what the following are and how they differ?: All-Mountain Cross-Country Free-Riding Hucking? And finally, what is "singletrack"? Much obliged. |

I'll let someone else take a shot at the definitions. I would not rule out racing, however. It is a blast, the people are great, and your technical abilities will improve quickly. The training for it also helps you lose weight. It is also an opportunity to get out and try other trails (sometimes only open for the race).

hey man,
here's the definitions: All-Mountain- Basically, strictly mountain riding Cross-Country--Basically, riding through the woods on single or double track. No real big drops or daredevil stuff, but depending on which trail you take, it could range from very light riding to highly technical. Free-Riding- These guys are nuts. Anything goes. The world is their playground. Stair gaps, big drops, urban, or natural settings. It's freeriding ![]() Hucking- if it's a drop, ride off of it. Cliff, building, who cares, just huck it. Singletrack - The best riding! singletrack it a type of cross-country course where the trail is very narrow, usually about 2-3 feet wide, or sometimes less. Hope this helps! |
