Default New Bike

Ordered the new bike today from my LBS (Runners World in Perth).

Giant 2005 Euro, best value for money including pedals and change of seat - $2900.

Large chain of bike shops could not get their act together, with each of them having different prices for the same bike.

Nitro I have sent you a personal message re your Euro and how its going.

3 sleeps to go.

How can you possibly call a shop that specialises in runners a LBS?

Oh and a pointer, b4 you get yourself in a bit of bother, Bike Force are not a chain, they are indepe'ndetly owned stores (Franchise). And of course they'd have different prices, let's see Subiaco, Woodvale, South Perth all very different demographics.
Wouldn't agree on the bike either, not one that purists would buy.

Gee - you're a happy chappy pukka! 3 paragraphs about a guys new ride and not a single nice thing to say!

Lose the attitude and CONTRIBUTE, rather than coming on here and flaming ppl for commenting!

Get a life!

Nice try Spewka. It was not the franchises you mentioned (now that only leaves one major one) and each store said they had to get my size in but with the difference in price over $200 difference and $200 more than RW. I understand demographics but thats a big difference and too much for me to ignore on my budget.

PURIST: One who practices or urges strict correctness, especially in the use of words.

I let the boys (one of who ended up in the top 10 in recent Busselton tri) at RW know that they specialise in runners, when 3/4 of the floor is taken up with bikes and associated products and a fully manned work shop and mechanic as well. Get down there and have a look.

Perhaps you would like to tell me about your bad experience with GIANTS as this will be my 3rd and had no problems with any of them before. For my budget this was the best buy going. By the way I have shopped at BF Woodvale and SP and the service was almost as good as I get at RW.

I thought being regarded as a ‘purist’ is a bad thing.
Especially for sport related pursuits like cycling. A cycling ‘purist’ would most likely only ride his top-dollar roadie on fine days, he/she would leave all the servicing to the LBS, have a lot more to say about what other cyclists should be doing, he/she would ride only routes that would take in the best of combinations of flats/hills & not much else (in other words would spend more time carting the bike about with the car than riding to/from anywhere). Etc.

Not the sort of bloke which would be much fun riding with.

I think all cycling purists need to wear a race number more often.

Well done Skull, good choice on both the bike and the LBS. Runners, best LBS in Perth. Got 2 Felts and 1 Giant from them so far.

What, no votes for TBE, Fleets or Parkers??

What's a purist? I'd hate to be washing his lycra.

Congrats SKull. I got my Giant TCR 1 from TBE. I'm completely satisfied with the bike and 95% satisfied with the LBS.
BF South Perth is closer to home and they have a GREAT service too, so lately I've been hanging there too.

Now that the weather is back on track...enjoy riding!

LOL, this is what I like to see, Perth people bickering over bike shops!

When it comes to purchasing bikes and trying to talk your way into a good price it all comes down to two things. Firstly your approach and secondly how badly the owner/sales assistant wants your business.

I find that the big companies with numerous stores really don't care if they have your business or not (unless they know you personally) and they hardly ever do you a kick arse deal. Smaller bike shops are generally more desperate for your business and will do better deals as they want to make sure you keep coming back.

Maybe channel 7's today tonight should consider going around bike shops to find out the best deals they can get on non-sale items.

So buddy if you want to shop at runners world go for your life, they obviously know how to please their customers!
