how many see the us and it's policies as being in alignment with elements of these forms of ruling philosophies?
the history of the us relied heavily on the belief in "manifest destiny", that the continent was theirs to take possesion of and control the environment and custody of it's inhabitants. the fascist ideal of enforcing private interest by military means is in full swing, the occupying, domineering, and plundering which are the time honored practices of imperialism and colonialism are in unapolagetic blatant evidence. it seems to follow these mindsets are now being applied to international dealings of all kinds, with the express approval of (granted a dwindling) an alarming percentage of the population, while others sit idly by. this of course, is rationalized in any number of ways, good for business, establishing some concept of democracy, a divine perogative of some religious following (mostly white christian), as a way to "fight terrorism", invoking war mentality of the past, demonizing foreign leaders to appear hostile to the us, invoking fear by the commercial media, good ol' patriotic hysteria and so forth. it has been pointed out that for good people to engage in the killing of others, as in war mentality support, religion has to be invoked, in this way people can deal with their collective consciences and feel justified morally. this is the case wether religious right or radical muslim, to cite just two examples. as belief systems and their behavioral outgrowths go, these philosophes are being espoused with no less than religious fervor, in defiance of the constitutional premise of the separation of church and state. these fundamental underlying philosophies of fascism, imperialism, colonialism, manifest destiny, divine right and so forth are deeply rooted in american culture and heritage. this heritage impedes people in realizing the root cause of the present decline of the us, that of being aligned with a govermental paradigm that puts the us and it's philosophies first over humanity in the name of patriotism. we need to think about a process to honestly identify, condemn, and move the us away publicly from these hostile stances, and work toward what it will take to make the globe livable and safer for it's inhabitants. to think the constant escalation of agression by the bush camp, and indeed the us two party system, is the choice of direction to move in is flawed logic to the core, wouldn't you agree? and if not, why? I blame Charles Grandison Finney for the beginning of the disgusting Manifest Destiny philosophy. He is responsible for one of the so-called Great Awakenings.
