I am not a member of a cycling club but very much would like to become a member. I have loved cycling since I began last November. It has become less of a challenge for me lately however. I only cycle around the neighborhood and It's getting boring. I know every pothole, incline, etc. I also don't seem to have my heart in it as much over the past two weeks. I still force myself out on my bike though. I don't want to lose muscle tone, stamina or get fat. Can you steer me toward a good club? I live in Smithtown, NY. I think some competition might get me back in stride. I also considered getting into racing not long ago. If I were cycling with others they could give me training tips. Thanks.

I am a member of a cycling club and currently running for the President position. Wish me luck in tomorrow's election. Should be interesting and with a large turnout.

You might try starting here
http://www.nybc.net/clubs/organizat...%20York%20State

Another good source of rides and club info might be your local bike shop. Most of them will have flyers about organizations and rides and even more information if you ask.

this site will give you specific information about women's cycling

Keep going and having fun!

I agree with Eden. The best place to start is at your favorite LBS. Many of the empleyees around here a part of a local club as well. I joined up with a club just a few months ago and have seen huge improvments already. Good luck.

Know what you want from the club you join. When I cycled regularly I wanted to find like minded cyclists that wanted to have fun. I checked out all of the local groups in my area that I could find. Here is a generalization of what I found.

1. "Wheelmen" groups are fast, hardcore, and the only time you'll see another one is at the start of the next ride.

2. Local MTB club was all about trail work, less about riding, (but had some rides), nice people though.

3. Bike store club. Mostly weekends. Variety of people, and all skill levels. Cool bakery rides, MTB rides, and explore the city rides. I don't know if they're still sponsoring weekly. * Your local shop may have something similar. Sold a lot of stuff after a ride.

4. Local city club ??? Have one, but a bit cliqish.
