A surprisingly low figure, although the rate of casualities that can't return to active duty is alarmingly high, so I suspect that might be down to improvements in battlefield medicine. I guess that figures might be low because the Americans are making most of their arrests and convictions by 155mm shell and F-15E Strike Eagle...

It is a low figure judging by past conflict's BUT, even one casualty is unnacceptable when one learn's that said war was based on knowingly false premises. See Downing Street Memo.

Let's face it : War is rarely justified. It usually boils down to some drug addled lunatic getting a Napoleon complex.

* Napoleon throught he could run the world better and make France great.
* Hitler thought he could run the world better and make Germany great.
* Saddam thinks he can run the world better and make Iraq great.
* Bush thinks he can run the world better and make America great.

The US military is legendary for trafficking of Heroin and Cocaine.

Exhibit A) The explosion of Opium export in Afghanistan since the US took over (the Taleban had nearly eliminated that trade).
Exhibit B) Columbia, direct CIA involvement (and fund raising) via Cocaine rackets.
Exhibit C) US servicemen wanted by the Columbian authorities for exporting a non-trivial amount of Cocaine.
Exhibit D) USAF aircraft falling out of the sky while the pilots remained high as kites.
Exhibit E) Cambridge being the Cocaine/Heroin centre in the UK, nearest international point of entry the US airbases that surrounded it. Circumstantial evidence admittedly, but that is almost certainly because the local Police were not allowed to investigate US servicemen.
