Default Would like some info on rear mech's

Hi

I have a 18 Speed Falcon MTB and I would like to change the rear 6 speed mech for maybe a shimano LX/Deore/Alivio. I know the other model do 7/8/9 speed... but i'm not sure if it would be ok or not

I don't know the teeth on the freewheel other then it's 6 speed

Cheers

What you might like to consider is going to ebay and doing a search on say xt or deore and see what crops up. I've seen 6 speed stuff going there reasonably regularly and for it to be worth putting on ebay its usually the higher end stuff. As for using a 7m speed RD I cant see a problem with that but you will have to use a 6 speed shifter and you may need to adjust the high/low stops on the RD. I'd look at ebay first.

Thanks for the reply jmitting

I've been looking at the spec's of the XT/Deore and I'm a bit worried about the chain's thay use CN-HG73 / CN-HG93 (super narror)

Would it be a problem if i keeped the same chain (no spec known)

+ i'm looking at getting a front mech too, only model that i've seen the spec's of that can handle two chain types is the Shimano Alivio RD-MC20-L and the front mech FD-MC21

I'm a little lost with the front tho as to a chain stay angle.... whats that all about what happen to one 4 all

Thanks for any help

A good one to look for if you are looking on ebay is SunTour XC Pro series. They are out of production now but they were high quality when that was normal gearing.
