Question New or 2nd hand

Hello everyone, im currently a student at university in UK. i used to have a GT bike so i want to stick with what i like. My father in law has a GT Zaskar team, with rock shox dukes, just normal shimano V-brakes and and 27gears, is it wise to get this as its only £350 as im family, ive been looking around and the shox are £200 and frame to buy on its own is £300, as i am a student i cant afford a great deal on a bike, and hopefully you can all help me out with my decision?(the bike hasnt been riden that much as my father in law is more into road bikes which his cost £1000)
