Riding into work this morning, I noticed that the bike path that runs from Rowville to Ferntree Gully (in Melbourne's outer east) had a sign, "this path will be closed from May 9 through to September x" (or something similar).
Four months seems to be a long time, anyone knows what's going on, and which section is actually going to be closed?? |

Its about a week since I last went down that track, but my guess is that they are about ready to divert the creek and start building the new road next to the BMX track. The new bridge has been completed on dry land for some time. The new road is for access to the Waterford Valley golf course and a proposed retirement village / Hotel (check out Melway map 73D8) Pity I'm working 12hr Day shifts this weekend or I'd nip down and check it out before Monday (I don't have lights and its already gettin dark!) Also the section of bike path that branches off this track and heads up to the intersection of Ferntree Gully & Scoresby Rds has been closed for some months now so they could lay a new (Huge) set of storm water drains for the new housing development on the Nth East corner of Ferntree Gully & Scoresby Rds. |

Cool - thanks for that. I may go down and have a bit of a look myself.

Spoke to Knox council today, and yes, it's being closed to put in a road to the retirement village.
He said the detour is probably (he wasn't sure) to leave the bike track at Henderson rd, onto Rushdale which takes you out to Ferntree Gully Rd. After Scoresby Rd, make your way through the estate back to the bike track. Peter. |
