I am looking to buy a bike and have seen 2 models can anybody recommend which one to go for or can u recommend a different model for around the same price.

Giant XTC 4 2005 - £500
Scott Scale 60 2005 - £599

Any input would be appreciated

I think either would be fine - I don't know the exact specs on those models.

Recently I bought a Giant and a mate bought a Scott, both are nice bikes. My Giant is slightly lighter than the Scott, having said that the frame and wheels on the Scott are awesome.

Overall it depends on your budget.

meh, i say ride each of them for a bit, see if one feels alot more comfortable or anything than the other.

scott frames are made by giant, theyre both good qulity frames, i'd get the giant (im biased though) but if theyre similarly speced i recon do it by ride feel, to me theres no point picking out the little diffeerences in components and weight, people get way too worried about weight, theyre proably similar but anyway..

i dunno what the specs are like on each of them NZ/Aus giants range is different, and dont know much about the scott range though our shop will soon be doing some scotts so it will be interesting to see how they ride etc.

generally around here for normal retail the giants are a little cheaper compared to some other brands at around the same spec but get whatever you feel rides better i say.
