Default Is a carbon soled shoe a necessity

Is a carbon soled shoe a necessity for track racing? If so, are all (brands)created equally? I have large feet, is it more crucial to have a stiff sole? Any prefered good shoe/pedal combos (I'd like the option of running straps)? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't say that you need to have carbon soled shoes to race on the track. If you're looking for maximum efficiency, then yes. If you have wide feet, check out the Sidi Mega range, or the previous generation shimano. they should accomodate your feet well.

Asfar as shoe pedal combos, I can only vouch for the Northwave Evolution and Spedplay Zero combo which are great.
