Default touring tyres to slick tyres?

i recently bought the continental top touring 2000 tyres for my old raleigh stratos touring bike (27" wheels). I can't get any slick tyres from the UK. I am just wondering how much difference it would be from touring tyres to slicks. would increase average speed? would it be worth getting slick from US or somewhere else?

The short answer: no.
Long answer: It won't give you any meaningful increase in speed, or if it did it would probably be psychological. There's a noticeable reduction in rolling resistance from a gnarly 26x2.25in gnarly mountain bike tyre and a 26x1.3 slick tyre (ever noticed that humming noise if you crank up a mountain bike on tarmac?) but between a tyre with a road tread like your continental and a completely slick tyre there wouldn't be a lot. That's assuming you could get a 27 x 1 1/4 slick tyre, anyway.

Couldn't you just ride the continentals until they go bald? (-:

Chris.

continental top touring 2000 tyres inflated to 80-85psi should have a low rolling resistance. Don't overload the bike.
