Hello, I am in search of some information on being a spectator in the Tour de France during stage 15 on July 17th. I am hoping to be able to watch the race on the last climb Pla d’Adet. I am going to be in Spain studying until the 15th and am planning on traveling to France by the Eurorail to get me as close as possible to Saint-Lary Soulan. If anyone has any info on lodging, transportation, etc I would very much appreciate it. Thank You

I've only been the once but my advise would be as follows: Book any transport / lodgings early they close the roads well in advance of the race so make sure are where you need to be in good time. Last year we were trying to get to the final climb at La Mongie but the roads were closed and we couldn't get any further than the Col D'Aspin. It struck me that the absolutely best way to experience it all was by getting a motorhome and getting to your spot the night before. I guess an alternative would be to camp with a car. I reckon there would be a great party atmosphere on the mountain. If you are lodging get as close as possible to the final climb. I was at the Plateau de Bielle stage with my girlfriend, mate and his wife. We set off walking up from the base of the mountain around 9am and we only got about 12 of the 17 miles up the mountain ( I blame my unfit mate!) but we did get a great spot. So it may take you a while to get up there. Other tips, - take plenty of water! We didn't take enough up the mountain and were desperately pestering the people on the caravan for more! Depending on where you are going and the weather take some waterproofs. In both mountain stages we were at the clouds came in very quickly and we were drenched - luckily they sell tour waterproof ponchos which also made a great souvenir. you'll love it - it's absolutely amazing. I'm not going this year so I'm more than a little jealous! James |

Here are two links that can help you:
ViaMichelin map and route planner All european train timetables For further information I recommend you to search for turist information sites of nearby towns (in your case Arreau, Bagneres-de-Luchon, ...) and then just send them an email.. |
