What is it like finding campsites in Spain.
There is little info on them onte net or Spanish Touring guides. Do most towns have Campsites or at least somewhere simple you can pitch a tent. Any bad experiences. |

theres not as much as one would like but you will always find a place to sleep, theres tons of country in spain. You should take care with places called and signed as "Parques Naturales" because it id forbidden to place a tent there but you´ll have no problem slepping outdoors on summer.

Sorry but your not supposed to camp anywhere except a camp site + in the summer tourists are easy pickings for migrant gangs ( they seem to come from a different country every year , one year colombia the next albania - before the Kosovo war , fund raising for the uck it seems ) so tread carefully .

Thats because law has been made for people with a lot of money to spend whenever they want(it seems to be you el ingles) Quote:
obviously in tourist zones as coast places like benidorm, alicante, marbella, they may have some migrant gangs, but that are places not to good to ciclist. Are you going to tell me, El Ingles, that you are going to find in trouble with an alban gang(or a spanish one) in the countryside miles ago from the famous places for tourist. Dont scare people about coming to spain in a cheapest way. i live in spain and i usually sleep outdoors whenever i want, included costa blanca coast, an no albam migrant gang has robbeb at all. |

I too live in Spain and I love the place but in high season you do need to be aware that there are problems from the French border all the way down to Gibralter - these gangs are migratory and never Spanish but can pose problems for the unwary : for example somebody drives along side and gesticulates that you have a problem , you stop and they rob you , it´s happened to friends , it happens every year , it´s a pain and it´s not THAT frequent but it can be problematic when all your money and documents are stolen so take care . I´m such a member of the idle rich that I havn´t had a holiday in about 12 years due to the fact that I can´t afford to - and this is the cycle club computer not mine , I don´t own one nor would I have the space for it if I did . Laws are laws and you do need to know what they are before choosing to obey or ignore them . ps did you use a translater from your search engine if so look for another ´cause yours sucks big time ( have you tried the altavista one ? ) - my spanish is better than that and I´m dyslexic .

Do you have any problem understanding me?? If you dont like how I speak your language try not reading me. If you speak very good spanish and your are dislexic I only have to doubt it and clap my hands. oh, the post was about camping, try searching infocamping.com or www.canalcamping.com or www.campingbungalow.com or www.vayacamping.net ps(if your friends suffered an attack by migrant gangs im sorry but spain is big, and that kind of things does not happen as usual as you think(more usual in benidorn an costa blanca than in the rest of spain) so if you want you can tell everything about benidorm, but no from the places you´ve never been. From the french border to gibraltar(QUE ES ESPAÑOL) there are a lot of places with no migrant gangs waiting for your money or documents. Is very easy to find them, avoid benidorm and all the tourist resorts as it, try north coast, try the countryside of andalucia, Galicia, Extremadura, Asturias and you´ll be surprised on how many migrant gangs are waitng for you (if you dont try ill tell you, no one. |

i did some bicycle touring in spain in 2003. i loved it, but camping is hard to find. maybe i just didn't use the right resources, but i only came across a few campgrounds, and they were overpriced and crappy. i spent a lot of time in castilla la mancha, and setting up a tent in that soil can be very difficult. after the first week of touring, i didn't even bother trying with campsites. i just stayed in pensiones for the most part -- and i free-camped a couple of times with no problems. in decent sized cities you can usually find rooms for around fifteen euros. |

re the gangs : two people in my Building have been " done over " by migrant gangs on the autovia between Barcalona and Valencia - same routine flag you down as if you´ve got a problem with the car then mug you , and I did hear of one guy actually being forced off the road then robbed - it doesn´t happen often , and then usually to foreign registered cars or hire cars , but if does happen , the theives are invariably foreign and it seems to be a different nationality each year - last year it was Colombians this year it willl probably be Rumanians . It´s no big deal but it can be wise not to carry all your money and documents in the same bag and be cautious just as you should be at the checkout in a hipermarket . re Gib : you won´t get any disagreement from me , but what about cueta and melilla in morroco ?

re migrants: Im sorry about the people in your building, that should not happen, but could have happened in every country and to carry all the money and documents in the same bag is not a good bussines, but that´s for every people travelling to any country. about ceuta and melilla, they are from spain(how would you spell "Protectorado español"?) before morocco became a kindong("Reino?") but Gibraltar was the result of some negotiations made in some awfull war when Spain was a kindong, and it was spanish. Ceuta and Melilla have never belonged to morroco, but you cannot say the same about Gibraltar |

There are some 1200 official campsites in Spain. They are often too far apart to link up for a tour.
The good news is that they tend to concentrate in scenic & good cycling areas. Althought well equipped often you will get a hard, sandy patch rather than a grassy pitch. They can also be seasonal. Wild camping is illegal near to built up areas & allowed elsewhere only with the landowners permission. However, pitching late & leaving early will often be OK. The cost of pensions & cheap hotels is such that they are the best bet, especially as you will avoid lugging all the weight around. Travel light & travel light hearted. Footprint & Rough Guides generally include details of campsites in their accommodation listings or simply write to the tourism office of the province you are visiting. As for crime, in my experience it's never been a worry on very many cycling trips. Perhaps the tourist coast may be a problem but who the hell would want to cycle there through choice. Have a great trip |

By the way, camping is allowed wild on the park as long as you move on after one night, (but you can move to a different part of the park and camp again. |
