Building up a new XC bike and will be running Manitou Skareb 100mm forks, but which ones I'm not sure. My previous forks were 80mm travel so I never felt lockout was really necessary, but I'm thinking with the longer travel I'm more likely to want it for climbs or flats?
Anyone have experience with one or both of the Skareb Super w/lockout and the Skareb SPV? A comparison of performance in an XC racing scenario would be nice Cheers |

Got the Skareb Platinum SPV 100mm. The SPV works well with no bob on the flats or seated climbing. Out the saddle there is movement, although using the travel adjust to reduce the travel can reduce the bobbing slightly. I'm very impressed with this forks downhill ability - the extra 20mm really makes a difference. |

I ordered a Skareb Elite a few weeks ago, in the 80mm travel. Still wondering if I should have gone with the 100mm, but I didn't want to slack the geometry too much.
I suppose since the thing still hasn't shipped I could always change the order, but since the original fork was around 80mm, the 80 replacement might be just fine. |

I ride the minute 2's with SPV, and for me they are boss
I have had previous experience with lockout forks but find the spv is less fuss once you have got them set up. I ride UK trails, but do the odd enduro and regular trailquest events, so I do want travel but I don't want mush!Lockout is one or the other- bouncing or not!! and relies on you to decide when you want either! if you are a serious xc racer and you are looking to run ur forks really firm and want max power go for lockout-they are muchos cheaper as well SPV is basically sets a threasehold where the travel to kicks in, but has the fork kinda workin on small hits as well, and opens up on the big hits. It's manitous latest thing, and stable platform technology is the way suspension companies are going- and it costs I love my spv fork, and do prefer it to manual laockout, because I don't have to think about it (or think about locking out my fork) its just easier and i just ride. my trailquest times have not suffered since I had spv, and although it might be marginally less effecient, I am a year older and still as fast- result ![]()

agh skareb.. get fox
MMmm 32mm stanchions, no flex, skarebs go where they want to go not where you want them to, theyre soooo flexy but whatever.. i dont wanna go off topic and make this an argument aobut how good/bad skarebs are so..i would get the SPV one mainly because you probly wont use the lockout all that much, sepends what sortof riding you do of course but for most people they wont use a lockout that much and its better to just have the benefits of the SPV
