Am thinking of upgrading my 2001 Manitou fork. Looking for a general purpose cross country ride. The multitude of choices is overwhelming at this point. I weigh about 155 pounds. The super adjustability of the new Rockshox looks interesting but there has to be some tradeoff for that. Likewise the low weight of the SID's.

I'm a bit limited but I ride a 2003 Marz MX comp w/ETA and I simply love it. Its 105mm (a FULL 4", no less) and plush and seriously stiff!! I can't imagine this line of forks got any worse. And an upside is that Marz is affordable. Unlike FOX, even though I hear nothing but good there either. So thats what I have to say. I did a bit of research and I can't be more satisfied... Good luck!

I just picked up a 04 MX PRO with ETA. I'm going to install it this weekend. Can’t wait! I'll post a review when I get some miles on it.
About the Sid, Two of my riding partners have them. They are always fixing, re-building, etc… them. I’m not sure if that’s common or not but I’m not very impressed with them. |

if you want a fork similar to the sid well.. i wouldnt reccomend the sid anymore.. theyre good forks but quite flexy, qui8te a few people complain about having the maintain them alot and having problems but i had a sid fork and never had any major problems with it. all manitou has comparable to the sid is the skarebs, dont even bother looking at them you might as well make a stick of rubber for your fork, they flex worse than anything ive ever seen and i dont really know much about any of the marzoccis so i wont comment on them,
what i would definatly reccomend above these sortof forks is the FRLT fork in the Fox range.. i think theyre slightly heavier and probly a little more expensive but your getting more adjustability and either 80 or 100mm (im running the 100mm on my xc bike) good luck finding something ![]()

I have, since about a year, a Marzocchi MX Comp W/ETA, it has worked perfectly, it feels plush and absorbs bumps nicely, I have had done no maintenance since new and still going on strong. I weight 200lbs, the fork it replaced was a piece of crap, can't remember the brand, it lasted about 4-6 months, it bottomed on any small bump or rock one of the caps blew away and hit me after going over a bumpy road.
What I've been told is that Marzocchis are a little on the heavy side but if you want durability that's the fork you need. |
