Default Not all truck drivers are ****holes

Was cycling today along the A70 (Lanark road) 10.15
between Balerno and the Kirknewton turn off, lorry
(Weissman dairies) came up behind me I thought "ah
well here goes all that buffeting and crap getting sprayed"
but he drove onto the other lane, passed me and pulled in
ahead of me indicating all the time (OK he is supposed
to) but all the same to have someone who was actually
working give that much consideration is very unusual.
A round of applause for him I think.

Teach you to clap and browse Usenet while cycling. I'm sure Boris would
support your right to do so though ;-)

....or maybe some truck drivers are cyclists. I know I always give
special consideration to cyclists when I'm driving.

What would probably be really appreciated by the driver is that if you rang
Weissman dairies and told them of this - they could probably identify the
driver and he could well get a metaphoric pat on the back. It also looks good
for the company if their drivers are seen to be courteous and it gets reported
back.

To be fair to lorry drivers, they are the best. The HGV test is very tough
to pass and they can have their whole livelihood to lose of they injure or
kill someone. I have very many to deal with on our docks road every day,
they nearly always move lanes and I get no abuse even though there is a
parallel cycle path. I just wish they weren't so scary.

E-Mail is off to them (I don't talk very well on the 'phone).

*Excellent*. I did this with a local firm near me and it seems it went down
really well with the drivers as most people only complain.

Agreed. I called one of the courier companies to comment on how there
driver had taken the trouble to stop and not drive through a large puddle
and cover me with water when I was cycling. The driver was well pleased
as besides the pat on the back from the manager he was also entitled to a
share of a bonus pool kept for drivers who receive complements.

Indeed. One of their tanker drivers overtook Juliette much too close on
a blind bend about four months ago, with the result that she wrote a
stinker of a letter to Mr Wiseman personally; and received a droid
letter back saying that the driver had been reprimanded. So when they
do good to cyclists they ought to get their backs patted.

Curious co-incident (maybe) in that I had a good experience with a lorry
on the way home, on my least favorite stretch of Leicester suburban road,
a heavy lorry was hanging back (and without loud revving) rather than
doing the usual along there - after it eventually passed me I realised
that it was ..... French.
Just goes to reinforce my predjudices in favour of French drivers (based
on experience in cycling heaven aka Brittany).

Whereabouts in Brittany? I go there every Easter with family and am
thinking of attempting one or more of the permanent (AUK) audaxes there
this year.

Shame the Firow skip lorry that overtakes me regularly isn't as
considerate. I regularly get a blast from his horn when he's right
behind me, presumably because I'm not on the cycle path :-(

Each time I vow to do something about it, but I'm generally a bit more
relaxed by the time I get to work. One day, though...

He is kindly letting you know that you have a good drafting opportunity
coming up....possibly a cyclist himself!
