Question Shimano RSX 8-speed STI shifters

So i just got a 1999 cannondale r500 and have a bunch of questions...but most importantly how do i shift with these shifters?? (Shimano RSX 8-speed STI), they have the shifters on the brake levers and i can shift up by pushing them in but cannot figure out how to downshift. i am very new to this as you can see!!

next, it has CODA clipless pedals--where do i get cleats? do all bike shops sell a variety of cleats?

lastly, it has a computer on it that doesn't seem to be registering any of the distance, maybe the sensors are too far apart?

thanks for any answers you may have!!!!

there are two levers. the "small one" and the brake lever. push the brake lever inward to shift. push toward the handle bar to brake.
