Default I got the fever...wheelset, hubs, rims for singlespeed road bike

I know I can re-purpose an existing wheelset to become a singlespeed wheelset.

I don't have an existing wheelset.

I don't even have a frame to build a singlespeed with yet.

But I do have the desire...and a limited budget.

So, that said, I'm looking for 70s or 80s english frame(Nottingham Raleigh or similiar such).

I'd like a 700c wheelset. Most older frames came with 27", correct?

I guess my question is do you guys have a preference in hubs, rims to use on the road.

Duraace high flange? Surly? Suzue? Others?

I got to get something. I guess a frame first.

if you're on a budget, i think your best bet is to avoid buying the bike in parts, find someone who's selling a complete bike, then take off the derailers, shifters, front chainring, and back sprocket, replace the front with a single sprocket, the rear with a bmx freewheel, you'll need a bmx chain as the new freewheel will be thicker, and then your only other task will be making sure they're lined up right, chances are the freewheel will be in way too far, what i did to mine, was switch the axle around, so that the large spacer was on the left side, and then redished the wheel so it was in the center again,

but yeah, the old bikes have the 27's, i'm not sure when they started making 700's

Thanks 10times,

I'm looking for "whole" bike.

Your spacer trick will help.

Thanks.
