Default Hamilton keeps Olympic Gold

According to the IOC, Hamilton keeps his gold medal. Good news for Tyler!

I'm kind of bummed as to the "why" however -- the IOC claims they didn't have enough intact red blood cells to conduct an adequate test. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Hamilton's innocence, and possibly not enough to get him off the hook for the Vuelta "B" positive.

So has Phonak reinstated him?

He's still on the team but suspended from racing pending the results of the medical panel's deliberations.

I'm not clear as to whether the final results of the Vuelta tests will have anything to do with his status. I'm inclined to believe that given the inconclusive Olympic "B" sample, Phonak will keep him.

Yes, good news for Tyler, but bad news for sport and for 2., 3. and 4. in OG TT!

Does he realy deserve that gold medal??

I'm a big believer in "play by the rules" -- and that goes both ways. If the IOC can't prove he doped according to their rules, then he is in effect, completely clean insofar as the IOC goes.

As of today he is, and will presumably remain, the gold medallist, and I agree with that. Whatever happened in the Vuelta is another matter entirely, and unrelated to the Olympics.

I will agree with you if A test will be negative! Yes, there are some rules and he is clean with that rules, but we can just foresee what is behind all that - 4 tests, 3 of them positive, none of them negative!

I think Phonak ought to can him for good. They might not have been able to nail him by bobbling the sample at the Olympics, but they did nail him at the Vuelta. So he's a doper. They should fire him immediately, pending results of appeal.

Just think, if he had done a David Miller and confessed, he would have lost the gold for sure. So he is rewarded for lying, if indeed he did. I am inclined to believe he did because of the Vuelta positive. And of course, if he did lie, then he's been lying ever since he did his first doping, whenever that was.
