Default pelvic fracture

On Labor Day I crashed and the result was a fracture of the right superior/inferior pelvic rami, a stable pelvic fracture. I recieved two consults (orthorped surg) and one said 6 weeks and the other 12 weeks time to return to the bike. Treatment is "tincture of time" with analgesics and cruthches.

I am concerned about the loss of aerobic fitness base and will maintain my weight with caloric restriction.

I would like any words of wisdom from those unfortunates who have suffered the same or similar fate.

Hey,
Don't worry. Take the time and let it heal. 8 years ago i broke my pelvis in a similar way you described. I was on crutches for 3-4 weeks and back riding my bike on a trainer week 5, and raced in week 6. I pushed it though, it hurt me and i had chronic back pain on the bike for almost 6 years. Doctors have since told me that had i not rushed the recovery, then i would have been better off.

It's really important to understand also that when you fracture the pelvis, all of the muscles surrounding the area cease to work correctly (as a stabilization mechanism.) Very important to do good rehab with a knowledgeable physiotherapist. I hope this helps.
