I have used Elite Stainless bottle cages on my Cannondale because they should be more durable than aluminum, right? If not, they at least do not make a bottle black after a few miles. They also do not promote corrosion from galvanic action due to the passive oxide layer on stainless. Carbon is out for this reason, among others. I do not buy for looks alone plus I think all carbon cages are ugly even on a mountain bike. Well, they do very well on the corrosion. But they are NOT durable. I have broken 2 in 2 years, both in the EXACT same place. This is due to weld undercut I found some King (made in Colorado!) Ti's on sale...beautiful craftsmanship, LIGHTER and far more secure. Did I mention the Kings are beautiful? Flowing lines, perfect bends without any hint of flat spots, hard tangents or ovality. Best thing is they look like ordinary cages. Little theft appeal but just to prevent this, I installed with tamper resistant screws. |
