The Hamm Gymnastics controversy seems to be the focal point of the Olympics this time.
Points : The judges made a mistake in scoring No one protested until it was too late to reverse the decision(by Olympic rules) This rule generally holds true in most competitions unless conspiracy or rule breaking is involved. I myself have been disappointed in many sportng event such as football because official seem to have their head up their butts rather than on the game but have never seen a games outcome reversed the next day because of a bad call. Some people are now hinting that Hamm should return his Gold Medal although he broke no rules or protocol. Others are saying a second Gold Medal should be awarded. My take on Gymnastic scoring is that their are certain requirments and standards in the routine and scoring manner but a great deal is left to perception by the judges. If they made a critical in error in black and white mathematics isn't it likley they could make errors in their scoring also which is much more abstract and open to emotion and mood and Hamm could have been the high scorer. If scoring is always consistent why do judges come up with different scores? I am not emotional about this subject at all just wondering what you guys think. Anyone else have any opinions.

yes , and on both sides . This just reflects , once again , that the olympics are too big and too nationalistic . Can we go back to something smaller and simpler ? I mean , why is pro-cycling , tennis , basketball , football , beach volleyball to name but a few in the olympics at all ? Simplify , lose the flags and maybe there will be enough unbiased and competent judges for the events but I´m not holding my breath . ![]()
