Awesome performance.
I do feel sorry for the other three guys who could easily have slotted in but missed out on riding and thus do not get a medal. Seems a bit rough compared to swimming where the swimmers from the relay qualifying rounds get the medals also.

Michael Ford or Miles Olman could fill the extra spot...

I think the others should get gold as well as per swimming.

This keeps getting better and better. 5 gold, 2 silver & 2 bronze!
Totally pumped to see Stuey O'Goldy finally get his gold.

More great news!

CYCLISTS Peter Dawson and Stephen Wooldridge will get gold medals - despite missing out on the 4000m team pursuit victory, Olympic officials said yesterday.

The pair was left out of the final, in which the Cyclones confirmed their reputation as the greatest endurance unit in cycling history with a crushing win over Great Britain.

Triple world champions Dawson and Wooldridge - who rode in earlier qualification rounds - received no recognition at first.

But Australia joined a push with Britain to have all riders used in the preliminary rounds given a medal - and last night it appeared the battle had been won. Cycling Australia manager Michael Flynn said that competition management had indicated it was prepared to give medals to all riders from medal-winners Australia, Britain and third-placed Spain who rode in preliminary rounds .

"We have been told we just need to apply in writing, but it is looking good," Flynn said.

Australian Olympic Committee director of sport Craig Phillips began negotiations with the UCI, cycling's governing body, and competition management on Monday.

Dawson and Wooldridge were heartbroken despite watching teammates Graeme Brown, Brett Lancaster, Brad McGee and Luke Roberts sprint to victory. Coach Ian McKenzie said the decision to drop the pair was "a horrible, horrible thing".

Olympic cycling rules de cree only finalists receive medals, but the British appealed in Sydney four years ago and secured medals for Rob Hayles and Jon Clay.
