I'm new to bike mechanics and was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to adjust my chain line.. i have a track frame and I have a set of miche hubs with a dura ace cog. up front I have a sugino 75 crank on a hatta BB. the chain line as best as i can measure is 44mm up front and almost 43 in back --actually using Sheldon Brown's figures it calculates to 42.79. Anyway, how close is close enough and/or any suggestions on how I can adjust the rear spaceing otherwise. I can't do much about the front I reckon without a replaceing the BB. I've been searching the web for mention of a cog spacer for track hubs but haven't seen much.

If it were me, I would not worry about 1mm. If I were desperate to align it perfectly, I would grind .5mm off the inside of the chainring and .5mm off the spyder, moving the chainring 1mm inboard. If you are brave, or crazy, enough to grind, don't do it by hand unless you are exprienced. I am lucky in that a neighbor of mine has a mill I use for such precision modifications. If you had a lathe handy you could try taking the shoulders of the BB back so the crank installs furhter in. After all that, you see why I would not worry about 1mm? |
