Default getting in shape for a race

i weigh 250 right now, and am supposed to be racing in a mountain bike race in a month and a half...i have seriously cut my food intake, but not so much as to hurt myself...i think that if i got down to 235, i would stand much more of a chance to do halfway decent in my class (clydesdale 200+)...are there any tips you guys have for me?...i was thinking about gettin up 30 min. earlier that i usually do and running about a mile every morning...u think that'd help? i'm 6'2" btw....
