Actually this isn't a new route just a new way for me to link a couple
of existing Melbourne trails. Tried it this morning and found it to be a great Sunday mornign ride, 40km with lots of variety and because it is a circuit you could start from any position along the way. Take the Yarra trail from Ivanhoe/Eaglemont where it crosses the Yarra out to Westerfolds Park. Then follow the Upper Mullum Mullum (as opposed to the Mullum Mullum trail which is in Ringwood) trail to Old Springvale Rd. You have to get onto the bitumen there and then down Springvale Rd to the Eastern Fwy trail. Then once you are on the Eastern Fwy trail it is bike path (get up early to avoid the damned dog walkers) back to the starting point. If you feel lazy you can drop about 8km by cutting across Thompsons Rd to the Yarra trail in Templestowe. Also noticed the extension to the Eastern Fwy trail at Springvale Rd which isn't open yet. Anyone know how far it is going to go or whether they will open the bike track before the freeway extension? If it follows the extension all the way to Ringwood it would be a great link to a lot of other trails. Tony/Dutch must have missed you by 5 mins. The guys I went with said they saw you waiting at the Thompsons Rd corner. Would have been a beautiful day out Kangaroo Gd/Panton Hill. DaveB |

Had a great ride, Dave! Amazing what a friendlier temperature makes
Wewent Donc RD, left onto something for 500m, Springvale Rd then right onto (old?) Warrandyte Rd up and down some fairly naaasty (but shortish) hills. Hit 78.8kph Down Andersons Rd and ended up at that roundabout near the general store we stopped at last Sunday. We swapped a few times zinging down to Greensborough and on thru to Old Heidleberg Rd to drool at Tony's 'future' frame in the window at Ivanhoe Cycles and then over chandler bridge and onto Kilby/DoncRd again where we parted at Bulleen Rd (i couldnt quite catch that guy, Tony...) I hereby decree that Sunday am should always behold weather like that ![]() -- |
