"crude oil futures hit an all-time high yesterday at $59.97 a
barrel."

Looks like it's time to give up your car and ride (public transport sux -
at least in perth) .....

Ditto in Sydney. It's usually faster for me to ride the 30Km (up hills and
all) rather than take the train.

It has been along time in Melbourne since I could drive to work quicker than
I can ride the 17.5km each way. Public transport here is also unreliable
and pricey.

The car is for those who have lots of time to waste and money to burn. I
have always maintained that when the Chinese population discovers the
private motor car the game is over. Demand for fuel will go through the
roof and pollution will become unbearable.

The big claim of increasing oil prices is 'middle east situation'.
Actually, demand has been rising because of China. This is across the
board.

Article in SMH on 20 April, scrap steel prices up to $400 a tonne,
from $70 two years ago.

That is why prices are not going to go down.
