Default I've forgotten how to ride a bike..help!

Hi guys!

hippy is back in Oz now after a month in Europe with not a single second
spent on a bike <sob>.

Has anyone got a set of training wheels they want to get rid of cheap?

Bike-Related Highlight: I got to watch/photograph the Rund Um Koln
UCI1.2(?) pro race in Cologne, Germany. This race was freakin massive!!
I've never seen so many people at a bike race!

Pix might come along one day.. I've only got 15GB of images to sort
through! (RAW, so that's not as many as you might think )

hippy "ahh it's good to be back.. now, when can I go again?"

That's truly evil, how did ya manage that? Too much beer?

Got a pair of noice pink ones in storage somewhere. Difficult to bolt
onto a QR on either 26" or 700c.

I've seen this done before.. "guys" is actually non-gender specific and
is okay for use when referring to groups of people :-P
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=guys Good Morning Ladies and
Gentlemen! (forgive me, I've been asleep for nearly 24 hours..)

The constant over-supply of beer was a factor but it was more the fact
that the gf doesn't want to ride around and I was too busy with the sight-
seeing to ride...

Pink would be lovely.. it'd definately give that "speed demon" look to
the road bike. The QR thing could be problematic though.

>Hmmm, wait until the end of this month, UCI Track!

Doh, to which I have no tickets! (and possibly no money left to buy
them! Must check...)

>15GB?!? Not much, cripes....

Only ~2500 images, or about 90/day.

and how... I just love coming home to 30 days worth of bills and not
just aussie ones - UKP->AUD does NOT favour us!!!

Hiya Hippy!!!

was thunkin you must be due back soon

my first ride this morning. hurties! re-aquainted with very tight
hammies/ and calves

and someone has magically made my bike heavier too. honest!!!

and why is it that so many cyclists date/marry non-cyclists? Someone to
drive us home after mtb-ing/audaxing/touring???

I got a complete bike's worth of Veloce inc Atalanta rims/wheels not
doing anything but then again you subscribe to the other mob, dont you!

PS was emailed the prelim consultants report/findings from that
Boroondara Traffic Strategy meetings (that I met you at way back
when). some good. most pathetic whitewash with allot of
recomendations conveniently suggesteing other people/orgs pay for
everything

Ah, I got that by snail mail, guess they couldn't read my hand-written
email address...

I called them up to give some feedback on those findings, since some
of them seemed pretty different to what came out of the group I was in
at that Malvern Town Hall meeting. My comments seemed to be well
received but I don't know how much difference it'll make!

urgh.. wine.. no wonder you were sick!

Noice.. more details please. I saw the On-One-Oz ute drive down
Glenferrie before which reminded me that I need to buy something
from them

I also want to build or buy a fixie for the road.. I'm too used to the
SS for commuting and need a new challenge It might help prepare me
for track racing next year too.

As i said, very rough. in all respects

all made of found-or-scrounged bits off old bikes and a mtb frame i
found (long horizontal forward facing dropouts) which looks like a early
90's pig-iron-cromo job with that awful purple/black crazed paintjob.
bluuurggh! but if it goes slow it will be cos its not red

38 chainring (old suzue? cranks. was a triple 28-38-48 off another bike)

picked up a SS wheel, freewheel hub tho (see thread approx 3 weeks old
on here from Koon Yong) which suits me as my commute is way hilly and Im
not up to grinding 38-16 day-in-day-out

Once my thighs resemble Sean Eadie's I'll go truly fixed

got flat bars at this stage but wanna play with drops as I prefer
em. Maybe I need to look at cantis/Vbrakes that will be cable-pull
compatible with my campag-ergos (8spd veloce leftovers after
chorus upgrade).

Now that work is easing off and I can have weekends again, the
shed/workstand beckons

I also would prefer the 700c fixed (hey, what's another bike?) for
road/commuting but the 'pig'

On-One-Ute??? must blow alot of smoke only running one gear

Maximum style points for that paint job!

>38 chainring

That's pretty big, I'm only running 32/15 on the road.

>picked up a SS wheel, freewheel hub tho

Umah! You paid money for parts :P

>my commute is way hilly and Im not up to grinding 38-16

Make sure you're not blowing out any knees with this ratio man! At the
moment, I'm out of the saddle on a couple of the bigger hills along
Whitehorse Rd. (I wasn't before I went Euro). I rode in again today,
just as slow, but felt easier/better.

>Once my thighs resemble Sean Eadie's I'll go truly fixed

I just want a setup resembling the courier bikes I saw in London and
Scotland. Fixed gear road bikes with funky bars. Only difference is that
I'll be fitting front and rear brakes - front because I'm not riding
brakeless along Maroondah Hwy and rear because I want the symmetry and
two hoods to ride on.

You can get adaptors to use road levers with v-brakes and vice-versa I
think. Expensive though, from memory. Will a full set of road brakes fit
onto it (levers and calipers)? You might be able to find a set with long
enough reach for 26" wheels?

>On-One-Ute??? must blow alot of smoke only running one gear

Seemed to run alright - the driver must know how to 'spin' properly

hippy
- with lots of euro bike catalogs to read through...

I did have a hugely funny reply written for this post,
Pulitzer prize winning no doubt! But the gremlins in
cyclingforums.com reckon I had too many images!!
Images??! What images?! The gremlins ate the post..

Anyway, the standard starting point for SS gearing is 2:1,
so 32:16 is perfect. I didn't have a 16T rear so I used 15T.
Of course, once you've ridden it a bit, you'll know if you
want to gear up or down.

>>Umah! You paid money for parts :P

>i know. not as hardcore as i claim huh

Meh.. if it helps get you rolling quicker.. do it!
I'm lazy so I'll buy stuff if it makes my life easier

>('Umah' Big grin when I read that. you ol' dawg!)

Young at heart? (Are not! Am too! Are Not! Am too! I know
you are but what am I?)

>thawt maybe some older hoods/levers or maybe those

Not really sure as I just try stuff until it works.. or nearly
works.. or maybe doesn't work at all...

>i want something that accomodates guards tho

You nancy!!

Nah seriously, I'm so sick of getting a soggy
arse riding in Melbourne. I've gone 5+ years without mud
guards and I'm sure I whinge about getting soggy every
winter so I must get some... must... maybe... later.. perhaps...

>>- with lots of euro bike catalogs to read through...

>yeah, that's right. Show off why dont you!#@#!!

They can be borrowed

>Evil hippy, no biscuit!!!

After a month with no bike, far too many fried breakfasts
and far too many pints (if their is such a thing).. I don't need
the damn biscuit!

hippy

hehe.. yeah! :-)

You need at least 62/12 in Melbourne for that,
as well as another 2ft of hair and at least 60%
body coverage of tattoos. Piercings get you
credit points but don't count towards the final
exam score.
