Hi Folks,
Yesterday I went along to the Camping show at Rosehill Racecourse and enjoyed it totally with possibly the exception that they didn't have much in the way for micro-camping. Microcamping in my understanding is when you go out hiking or biking/touring that you are self sufficient in your accommodation and meals and can stop anywhere you wish(within reason) to put the head down for the night. I kind of went there with the purpose to see what i could find in the way of micro-camping goods for the light single camper and found relatively little although I did buy a Team waterproof rain jacket that folds into itself for $64 down from $79. I was happy with that. Yes there were lots of great ideas for the 4WD set and their mega-campers all the way up to the Luxo-campers, lots of fridges, generators etc but not much in the way of the singleminded camper who likes to travel light, with the exception of Boots & Kangaroo City who had some smallish hiking gear. It would be good to see more of the stuff that hikers and touring cyclists could use.I'm not complaining mind you, as I had a good time and picked up a few bush tips but it'd be good to see more for the micro-camper. Did anyone else go there? would be interested to know what others thought. Regards DJ |

We recently went to the Perth C&C Show and came back with the same opinion.
Cycle camping is obviously a small and specialist market. regards Andrew http://www.geocitieis.com/andrewhoo...cleTouring.html "D&M Johnston" <mrjay@(no spam)bigpond.com> wrote in message news:1oLic.9328$qq6.3172@news-server.bigpond.net.au... > Hi Folks, > > Yesterday I went along to the Camping show at Rosehill Racecourse and > enjoyed it totally with possibly the exception that they didn't have much in > the way for micro-camping. > > Microcamping in my understanding is when you go out hiking or biking/touring > that you are self sufficient in your accommodation and meals and can stop > anywhere you wish(within reason) to put the head down for the night. > > I kind of went there with the purpose to see what i could find in the way of > micro-camping goods > for the light single camper and found relatively little although I did buy a > Team waterproof rain jacket that folds into itself for $64 down from $79. If you have questions about gear, ask hear and you could also ask in aus.bushwalking as they have similar interests in lightweight gear. But, don't ask them about credit-card touring {:-). |

That show seems to target the grey power & family set. You probably noticed
that when you looked around at the majority of the crowd attending. Anyway you can tour in comfort knowing that you won't be doing what the "crowd" is doing. Get out there away from the pack and enjoy the peace & quiet. Happy touring !
