I wonder why no one seems to have mentioned this? (if anyone did, I missed it.)
I was watching the Tour on 7/25, and saw the last few miles....all I saw was them talking about LA winning and crossing the finish line, but they didnt SHOW it! In this mornings paper they said OLN messed up, but partly because the French authorities told them they could NOT film LA crossing the finish "for security reasons"?? Anyone know anything about this?

I dont recall, I'll have to watch my tape again. The local paper said they didnt show it until 25 mins later. I did see the podium though, with the playing of the naitonal anthem.

I was very happy to have seen such incredible coverage throughout the entire Tour this year. If they had to curtail filming a ceremonial finish, that's too bad. But I am very relieved that there was no terrorism during this year's Tour. At least, I'm not aware of any. |

I thought they showed it with some other rider in white and blue coming up next to him and patting him on the back, as if to so say, "good job big fella". |

I think Paul and Phil said something about it being because he wanted to avoid the bunch sprint so he finished a bit back and the camera's weren't expecting that so they messed it up a bit

The New York Times had a big article on this on 7/26. Check their archives. If I remember correctly, the French Media was more interested in covering the sprint finish that they didn't even have a live camera on Armstrong only a "recording" one which is why the tape wasn't released until almost 25 minutes after Lance crossed the finish line. Remember earlier in the OLN coverage, Al Troutwig commented on how strange it was that the French did not have a camera dedicated to the defending TDF champion. Roll kind of passed it off as French sour grapes. |

I should imagine most viewers wanted to see the finish rather than LA crossing the line. Coming into Paris is where the yellow jersey gets the attention but the Champs Elysees is about the sprint. |
