Forgetting about aerodynamic effect, how does the pressure that a rider applies
to the pedal when riding on the hoods compare to that of down in the drops? |

I'm not sure that is as relevant as it once was, back when the Campi sidepulls were state of the art. Then you could have problems getting max stopping power from the hoods. Nowadays I prefer the top of the hoods on the one bike I ride with hoods, because I can modulate them better. I can haul it down in the wet or the dry from either position. Curtis L. I've noticed that grade changes can result in what feels like a more powerful seated position and corresponding stroke but upper body repositioning is primarily for wind footprint. YMMV. |

Depends on the fit of your bike. For me, I can apply significantly more power when on the drops than with my normal hoods riding position. I can also get a lot of power by sitting on the hoods and bending my elbows way down, but using the drops is more comfortable. |

These very days, I've ridden quite a lot againt the wind, and I am trying to learn to use the drops. It doesn't feel very natural yet, rather a bit cramped. Today I managed to cover maybe 10 km mostly on the drops, and it felt better to spin more slowly and apply more pressure than on the hoods. Jacques |
